TMJ (TMD) Therapy

One common jaw disorder that patients suffer from is Temporomandibular Joint pain / Temporomandibular Dysfunction. Temporomandibular Dysfunction (also known as TMD) occurs when there are problems with the TMJ joint. This is the joint that allows you to move your lower jaw in various ways so that you can speak and eat.

TMD symptoms can include:

•Pain in the jaw region
•Pain the neck, ears, and shoulders
•Ringing in the ears or hearing loss
•Nighttime grinding or clenching of your teeth
•Frequent migraines around your temples
•Feeling groggy or lethargic during the day due to a poor sleep

As you may have noticed, the symptoms are quite varied and there is no specific set of TMD symptoms. Depending on the root cause of your TMD, it can affect you in various ways. For example, if your TMD is the result of an injury to your jaw, it may require orthodontics or corrective surgery. However, if your TMD is due to stress, we may recommend an oral appliance and relaxation exercises.

For this reason, Wychwood Dental recommends a comprehensive evaluation so that we can get a complete understanding of your symptoms and needs. Once we have found what is causing your TMD, we can create a detailed treatment plan that will help relieve your symptoms for the long term.
